April 1, 2020
Palmer, AK –Matanuska Electric Association’s typical residential-use member (using approximately 641 kWh/month of electricity) can expect to see a small decrease of about $0.12 to their overall bill as a result of a slight decrease in the second quarter cost of power adjustment (COPA) rate, effective April 1, 2020.
At the February Board meeting, MEA’s Board of Directors elected not to increase base rates during the second quarter. However, the COPA rate, will decrease by about 0.27%, subject to RCA approval. The net effect resulted in a small overall decrease to the typical-use member bill. This is the third overall rate decrease within the past year.
MEA may file limited increases or decreases in base rates on a quarterly basis, provided the adjustments stay within certain financial parameters established by the RCA. The COPA rate, a separate component on member bills, fluctuates quarterly as fuel and purchased power costs fluctuate.
