Rate Update: MEA Members to see Overall Rate Decrease in Third Quarter
July 1, 2019
Palmer, AK – Matanuska Electric Association’s typical-use member (using approximately 655 kWh/month of electricity) can expect to see a decrease of about $0.43 to their overall bill as a result of third quarter adjustments to base rates and the cost of power adjustment (COPA) rate, effective July 1st.
The Regulatory Commission of Alaska (RCA) has approved a 1.94% increase in base rates effective July 1st. Also, effective July 1st, the COPA rate will decrease 4.01%, subject to RCA approval. The net effect of these quarterly adjustments results in an overall decrease to the typical-use bill. This marks the third overall rate decrease within the past 12 months for MEA members.
MEA may file limited increases or decreases in base rates on a quarterly basis, provided the adjustments stay within certain financial parameters established by the RCA. The COPA rate fluctuates quarterly based on fuel and purchased power costs.
MEA currently provides the lowest base rates of any Railbelt electric utility in Alaska, and the second lowest overall rates in the Railbelt.
