On April 23, 2013, Matanuska Electric Association members gathered together at Raven Hall on the Alaska State Fairgrounds for their 72nd Annual Membership Meeting. Over Matanuska Electric Association’s strong objections, on February 6 the Regulatory Commission of Alaska approved a 42% interim increase in the base cost of wholesale power paid to Chugach Electric Association. MEA purchases almost all of its power needs from Anchorage-based Chugach under a contract that expires at the end of 2014. FBI Warns of New Fraudulent Credit Card Scheme »
Kevin C. Donovan, Acting Special Agent in Charge of the FBI, State of Alaska, advises that Alaskans may be targeted for a new variation of a fraudulent scheme concerning credit cards. Under this new scheme, victims receive a text message on their cell phones stating their cards had been de-activated and to call a 907 area code number to re-activate. MEA to Hold Series of Public Meetings to Discuss Transmission Line Routing »
In order to provide for greater system stability, reduce outages, and help deliver power to key load centers, MEA must build a new transmission line in the Wasilla area. The engineering firm of Dryden and LaRue has been retained to help develop routing options and to design the final project. The Matanuska Electric Association Board of Directors voted on February 11, 2013 to authorize an increase of 0.33 percent in base rates, effective the second quarter of 2013.
